Living Right and Being Free
“We like living right and being free.”
That line closes the chorus of Merle Haggard’s Okie from Muskogee, a 1969 anthem for Americans who felt overlooked during a time of protests, culture clashes, and political unrest.
Haggard knew the life he was singing about. Born in a converted boxcar to Dust Bowl parents from Checotah, Oklahoma, he spent time in San Quentin before turning to music. The song gave voice to those who still believed in traditional values.
Lots of Okies still believe in living right and being free. This shirt is for them.
