White Mule
In 1933, Progress Brewing Company opened at 501 N. Douglass in Oklahoma City—the first in Oklahoma to receive a federal license after Prohibition.
They made several beers over the years—Jayhawk, Progress Select, Progress Bock—but White Mule Ale, released in 1935, was the one people remembered.
Named after bootlegger slang for strong, clear liquor with a kick, White Mule was loud by design. The beer didn’t last, but the label stuck.
This shirt brings that piece of Oklahoma’s early beer history back into the light—mule and all.
