Born in Okemah, Oklahoma, Woody Guthrie is an Oklahoma icon and a complicated figure celebrated as one of the most important folk musicians in history. He is responsible for writing classics like "This Land Is Your Land." 

On radio shows across the country, his was the primary voice for the struggles ordinary people and the working class faced during the 1930’s dust bowl and depression in Oklahoma and California. 

“Take it easy, but take it” was advice he’d give at his concerts and on his radio shows. Many viewed it as a reminder to keep moving forward despite the odds.
